Why donate?

TransParent is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that received tax exempt status in 2014. Unlike other organizations we do NOT ask our parents for donations, that they join us as a “member”, charge a membership fee or pass a donation hat during our meetings. Nor do we charge a child’s participation in the Gender Independent Kids Club. TransParent has made a very thoughtful and concerted decision to NOT take this approach for our funding. Why? Because when parents come to us they are usually in crisis mode and they are often grappling with decisions necessary to do the right thing for their child. These parents are typically extremely overwhelmed. We want our parents to focus on being parents and not distracted by monetary requests from us! Our parents, unlike parents of LGB children, will potentially have excessive medical expenses that may not be covered by their insurance. Frequently, our parents are forced to pay out of pocket for their child’s therapy, hormone blockers, cross hormones, surgeries and other trans related doctor visits. Your donation will help these parents have one less burden. Your donations provide critical support for the parents so they can focus on their new journey of raising a transgender or gender-independent child.

Where does our money go?

We are a 100% volunteer organization. Our board of directors, meeting facilitators, and other volunteers receive no compensation for any work they do on behalf of TransParent. Our donations go to help our organization’s involvement with the following:

• TransParent expansion to other communities
• Outreach presentations and supplies
• Conferences and speaking engagements
• Brochures and flyers
• Website development and maintenance
• Gender Independence Day Celebration
• PRIDE St Louis
• And much more!
